Diane and its generics should only be used to treat moderate to severe acne along with seborrhea or mild hirsutism. Mild hirsutism is excess hair on the face, chest, abdomen or legs. Seborrhea is a condition associated with excess oily secretions of the skin. It causes scaly, flaky, itchy and red skin. However, when used for acne, they should only be used if other treatments, such as those applied to the skin and oral antibiotics, have failed.
Diane and its generics act also as hormonal contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies. They should not be used in combination with other hormonal contraceptives.
